Planting, Growing, and Harvesting Conventional
and Organic Onions
Our family has been farming onions for 30 years and we are proud to have a sustainable farming program while supporting our local community. Our farming practices replenish the ground with nutrients with our rotation of crops and growth of cover crops. We are an integral part of water conservation in our industry. We have established a water management plan that includes reservoirs, several wells and an irrigation system that can sustain our entire onion farming operation. We are 100% compliant with the Produce Traceability Initiative, Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and we are GFSI certified. In our focus on food safety we have implemented extensive traceability program that tracks our produce from the field to our customers.
We offer employment to over 500 people from our local communities during our packing and harvesting season. We incorporate food grade nutrients that are applied during the growing phase that are highly available to the plant which eliminates wasteful applications and makes for an extremely healthy finished product to the consumer. We work with local seed companies in which we grow trial varieties for them so that they may develop onion varieties that are less susceptible to disease, therefore reducing the amount of plant protection products being used. All of our onions are sampled and tested for pathogens as well as pesticide residue before harvesting. We also grow both conventional and organic onions. We have 3 generations of Dalenas working in our company tending to every aspect of the farming process from planting, growing, harvesting, packing and shipping. We pride ourselves on providing excellent produce to each and every customer we supply.
